Access to clean water is a major problem. Contaminated water is used for drinking, bathing, cooking, and watering crops. Approximately 70% of the population does not have access to safe water. The lack of safe water leads to several waterborne illnesses, such as cholera, typhoid, and chronic diarrhea. Unfortunately, these illnesses are the cause of more than half of the deaths that occur each year. 

Mission Direct Haiti wants to stop the problem at the source. In addition to fixing and maintaining broken wells, MDH plans to drill additional wells for the villages.
